The Illegal Immigrant Question - I've Finally Figured it Out
There is a Purpose in Supporting Uncontrolled Illegal Immigration and it's not Humanitarian
I wrote this article a while ago but did not post it because I simply could not believe the conclusion I came to based on the evidence. Recently I have concluded that my original conclusion was correct. The illegal immigration problem is not a result of poor immigration policy, poor border control, and a surge of migrants due to world unrest. The illegal immigration problem is a political strategy by the left to take control of our government, not by convincing voters that their policies are superior, but by increasing congressional seats in blue urban areas and by moving illegals from non-voting status to voting status as soon as possible.
Something that has baffled me for many years is the degree to which people on the left in our country fight tooth and nail in support of illegal immigrants. I know all the arguments. Illegal immigrants pay taxes. Illegal immigrants do work that Americans will not do. Illegal immigrants contribute to social security but do not get to take it out, helping the rest of us who can. Illegal immigrants are less violent than native born Americans. And for every argument in favor of supporting illegal immigrants, I see very credible evidence that just the opposite is true. Illegal immigrants get free health care, free education, food stamps, Section 8 housing and a host of other social benefits. Illegal immigrants drive without licenses and insurance, many are members of notorious gangs, and we house hundreds of thousands in our jails for committing in some cases heinous felonies. Illegal immigrants take jobs from hard working Americans and push down wages.
My purpose is not to debate the merits of the illegal immigration argument. I expect there are truisms on both sides. I am sure there are benefits to having 10 to 20 million illegals in the country, and I am sure there are negative consequences. All of that is irrelevant to my purpose. My purpose is to examine why people on the left so vigorously defend illegals, even to the point of breaking Federal law, creating sanctuary cities, laying down the red carpet, and embracing those who manage to dodge the border patrol with open arms.
The left has traditionally supported American workers and Americans at the lower end of the economic spectrum. There is no debate that illegal immigrants take jobs away from Americans and strain the resources of those who must rely on government’s largess to survive. So why would those on the left turn their backs on the constituents they claim to champion to throw benefits and favors at people who have broken the law to enter this country? I could never figure that out—until now.
There are 20 Spanish speaking countries in the world, excluding Spain. Most of those Spanish speaking countries are in Central and South America. Are the countries similar? Well, they are both large and small, some are rich in natural resources, some not, some are high in the mountains, other at sea level, some are landlocked, and some are not, some have tropical climates, some have temperate climates, some have rich soil, some have poor soil and so on. The reality is these twenty countries are exceedingly diverse. From climate, to agriculture, to vegetation, and even to culture, these twenty countries are not the same.
These countries are not the same—with one exception. If you look at all these countries, you will find a very similar system of government. From Mexico to Chile you have governments that tend to be socialist or left leaning, you have governments that control huge portions of the economy (often with nationalized natural resources, healthcare, airlines and more), you have big governments, you have people in government and their sycophants using their positions of power for personal enrichment, you have governments that get elected primarily by promising handouts and payback to those who support and vote for them, you have governments who control media and the message to citizens, you have high levels of corruption, and you have lack of due process for those people who oppose the ruling class.
So, think about it. Those 10 to 20 million illegals are primarily from the twenty countries I have just described (although I do recognize that we are increasingly seeing global illegal migration to the United States). It is natural for people coming to the United States to retain their cultural roots. These 10 to 20 million people voted for the governments I have described in the previous paragraph. There is no logical reason to believe those same people would vote differently than the way they have voted in their countries of origin. Which party most mirrors the governments in these twenty countries? The Democrats and in particular the new wave of Democrat progressives who are much further to the left than the Democrats of 50 years ago.
Some of you will say that illegals cannot vote. Many districts are considering giving them the vote. The phrase should be they cannot vote yet. New York has already approved voting by illegal immigrants. Further, attempts to ensure that votes provide evidence of citizenship have been overturned by the courts. In Federal elections there is no requirement that voters prove they are a citizen, and in some states, voters do not even have to provide identification.
Further, congressional districts are apportioned based on population regardless of whether that population is here legally or illegally. Most of these illegally immigrants reside in urban areas, increasing the size of urban districts compared to rural districts. We also know that in many states urban dwellers vote blue and rural dwellers vote red. In some cases, the blue urban dwellers out vote the red rural dwellers on a statewide level. The illegal immigrants result in more congressional districts in urban areas, than in rural areas, increasing the likelihood of more blue congressional seats in congress.
So now I have finally figured out why the left has such a passion for defending these illegals and getting them citizenship. It means more congressional seats for Democrats, and it means 10 to 20 million more voters for the Democrats. It also means we end up with government just like Argentina, Guatemala, Peru, or Mexico. And that, my friends, is just what the people on the left want, as long as they are in power telling you and me—the people who do all the work and create all the wealth—what we should be doing and how to do it.
Ever heard of Ockham's razor?
Don't you think it is much more likely that the vast majority of left wing supporters of illegal immigrants are not running a nation wide conspiracy to overthrow the government, but rather just do it because of their core believe that simply people are never "illegal" but human beings like you me? A believe that just being neglected and oppressed simply because by sheer bad luck of being born at unfortunate GPS coordinates is one of the most unfair concepts ever and goes against any believe of a meritocracy?
BTW I'd argue that people supporting immigrants in Europe share similar believes. In Europe illegal immigrants come from places like Syria, Iran or Sub Saharan Africa. These aren't really famous for their left wing progressive views. So either European supporters aren't as smart as American ones with their intricate plan to overthrow the government. Or your whole theory is just a lousy explanation.
